Roar, Shippo! Arcanum 'Wound of the Heart'

[ Prologue ]

INU:   Amidst the chaos of the Warring States Era, we continue our journey.

KAG:  In a time 500 years ago, everyone’s fate is tied to the fragments of the Sacred Jewel.

INU & KAG: Let’s battle on! Inuyasha!

SHI:   Miroku, Sango, Inuyasha, and Kagome. They’re all strong fighters. I’ll become strong too and defeat Naraku! Now it’s time for Lord Shippo!

[ ACT I ]

Night time in a forest. A bunch of fox demons kids are trudging slowly.

Fox 1:  I'm tired, Brother…

Fox 2:  I'm exhausted, Brother.

Brother Fox: Shut up!

Fox 3:  Myo.

Fox 4:  Mew.

Fox 1:  Let's rest, Brother.

Fox 2:  Let's take a short break, Brother.

Brother Fox suddenly stop and the four little foxes crash into him.

Brother Fox: (confident) Just a little bit more!

The fox demons sigh and fall into a pile exhaustedly. Suddenly a dragon-like red demon leaps out and scowls at something behind him. The fox demons panic and shriek.

Demon: Damn…

INU:   (background) Wind Scar!

A Wind Scar flies out and kills the demon, bending some trees as well. SHI appears and runs up a branch.

SHI:   How's that? We got him! You dare to eat me?!

The fox demons look at SHI in awe and fear.

Brother Fox: That's…?

SHI:   (smug, laughs) Don't you dare look down on me!

MIR:   (background) We're going, Shippo!

SHI:   (whining) Wait! Don't leave without me! (runs off without noticing the fox demons)

Brother Fox: That's… That's our hero!

Fox 1:  You're right, Brother.

Fox 2:  It's our hero!

Fox 3:  Miao!

Fox 4:  Mew!

Brother Fox: This is… This is our legendary hero!

The fox demons raise their hands in excitement.

[ Title screen: Roar, Shippo! Arcanum 'Wound of the Heart' ]

Daytime in a village, in front of a mansion. SHI is talking to a girl. KAG, SAN and cute KIR look on from behind.

SHI:   My parents had passed away.

Girl:   (sad) Shippo…

SHI:   But I must be brave! I still have many friends.

Girl:   (looks at the rest of INU-gang) They're really good friends!

SHI:   But, Mizuki, I'm worried about you. How have you been doing lately?

Mizuki: (smiles) Don't worry about me.

SHI:   Huh?

Mizuki holds up a ring of flowers and place it around SHI's neck.

Mizuki: (turns around shyly) I'm glad to see you, Shippo…

SHI:   S-Same here, Mizuki!

KIR yawns.

SAN:  That Shippo… Why does he get along with every girl we come across?

KAG:  I think it must be influence by that guy…

KAG looks towards the courtyard of the mansion, where INU is lazing. MIR is talking to the lord of the mansion.

MIR:   We'll take care of the demons once they appear. But fighting with demons in a mountain takes longer time.

Lord:  Well, I understand that.

MIR:   So… as for the accommodation…

Lord:  You all may stay as long as you want.

MIR:   (whispers) Do you think you could summon all the young village girls here?

Lord:  (smiles) I'll ask them to come during dinner.

MIR:   (grins) It would be better if they could stay over tonight.

SAN suddenly appears next to MIR and knocks him on the head with HIR.

SAN:  You're too much, Priest!

KAG:  (appeasing) Now, now, Sango…

INU:   Keh! Guys! Why are we even here? There are no demons here. (sulks) And no Sacred Jewel fragments either. They don't just pop out of nowhere.

Lord:  What is going on here?

INU:   How would I know? We're just wasting time here…

KAG:  (furious) Inuyasha!

INU freezes.

KAG:  Sit!

INU crashes into the well that he was sitting on.

INU:   (climbs out) Damn you, Kagome!

KAG:  (crosses arms) Sit.

INU crashes into the well again. Mizuki and SHI look on.

INU:   Kagome…!

KAG:  Sit!

Mizuki: Do Shippo's friends always throw such tantrums?

SHI:   They're all children. But it's alright. I'll keep an eye on them.

Mizuki: Hmm…

A while later. INU-gang are bidding farewell to the Lord before they head to the mountains. INU is leaning on a wall lazily.

KAG:  We'll be heading off then.

Lord:  (bows) It was a pleasure to meet all of you.

KAG:  Are you going to wait for us here, Inuyasha?

INU:   Yeah.

MIR, SAN, KAG and KIR walk off.

SHI:   Aren't you going with us?

INU:   I think it's not necessary! I can handle those demons if they appear here.

Lord:  (bows to INU) Thank you for the help!

INU:   Don't mention it.

SHI:   W-well then, I'll go around and check it out.

INU:   I have faith in you.

SHI:   Mm. (walks away proudly)

[ End of ACT I: 6min 14sec ]

[ ACT II ]

Cut to SHI sitting on a knoll, holding a wreath of pink flowers and singing to himself happily.

SHI:   (singing) Yoyoyo i yoyoyo i yoyoyo i na… Yoyoyo i… yoto! (bends the wreath into a heart shape) Perhaps Mizuki will be happy when she sees this. I'm sure she'll love it!

Suddenly the five fox demons appear behind SHI.

Brother Fox: Oyabun!

SHI is frightened and slides off the knoll. The fox demons slide after him and crashes into SHI one by one.

Brother Fox: One!

Fox 1:  Two!

Fox 2:  Three!

Fox 3:  Four!

Fox 4:  Five!

The fox demons jump and form a line in front of SHI.

Brother Fox: Oyabun!

Fox 1:  Oyabin!

Fox 2:  Oyapyon!

Fox 3:  Myo!

Fox 4:  Mew!

SHI:   (stands and waves fist angrily) What are you doing?!

Oyabun: With respect, Master Shippo! We're the Fox Demons!

Oyabin: Oyabin!

Oyapyon: Oyapyon!

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Mew!

SHI:   Oyabun…?

Oyabun: You are the greatest Fox Demon. The demon world has been in chaos for awhile now. We are always bullied by Naraku and the other demons.

Oyabin: The fox clan is nearly wiped out by them.

Oyapyon: 5 of us got separated from our parents.

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Mew!

Oyabun: We've heard so much about you, the Great Shippo!

Oyabin: You are the only one who can defeat Naraku.

Oyapyon: There is no other hero amongst the fox demons except you.

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Mew!

SHI:   (pondering) That's right…

The fox demons crowd around SHI and gush.

Oyabun: Master, we'll do our best! Master, please teach us to become stronger!

Oyabin: Please accept us!

Oyapyon: Please!

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Mew!

SHI:   (sweating) Actually, I'm not that good…

Oyabun: No! No! You're the best!

Oyabin holds up a bow and arrow.

Oyabun: I heard that there's a priestess with you even though you're a demon.

Oyabun slides away and Oyapyon swings a mini-version of HIR.

Oyabun: A demon exterminator!

Oyapyon slides away and Myo holds up a staff.

Oyabun: A priest!

Myo:  (chanting) Nanmo nanmo nanmo!

Myo slides away and Mew squats like a dog.

Oyabun: A half-demon!

Mew: (barking) Wo! Wo! Wo!

Oyabun: Aren't you their leader, the formidable Shippo?

SHI:   (pondering) Well, I'm the leader…?

Cut to SHI's memory of sleeping in KAG's lap, in a meadow, while KAG watches over him affectionately.

SHI:   (voice-over) A priestess…

Cut to SHI's imagination of sleeping in SAN's lap, in a room of a mansion, while SAN watches over him affectionately.

SHI:   (voice-over) A demon exterminator…

Cut to SHI's imagination of sleeping in MIR's lap, on a lotus leaf, while MIR meditates.

SHI:   (voice-over) A priest…

Cut to SHI's imagination of INU grinding SHI's temples, against a backdrop of flowing lava.

SHI:   (voice-over) A half-demon…

Cut to present.

SHI:   (furious) Why you…?! Inuyasha is an idiot! I'm the one who is leading them!

The fox demons cheer.

SHI:   We shall defend the humans!

The fox demons cheer again.

Oyabun: Master, please teach us to become stronger!

SHI:   (shocked) Ee?!

Oyabin: I'm sure you have a powerful skill to defeat Naraku.

SHI:   (pondering) Powerful skill? (claps hand) That's right! I've got this… (takes out a top and spins it dramatically) Fox magic! Spinning Top!

The top grows bigger and spins in front of the fox demons.

SHI:   (smug) How's that?

Oyabun: (looks down) Oyabun!

Oyabin: (looks down) Oyabin!

Oyapyon: (looks down) Oyapyon!

Myo:  (hugs Mew) Myo!

Mew: (hugs Myo) Mew!

SHI:   What?

Oyabun: Please don't make a fool of us!

Foxes: Please!

Oyabun: Don't you have a better skill?

SHI:   Better skill?

Myo & Mew: Yes, better skill!

Oyabin: Such as Wind of Trees!

Oyapyon: Scar of Forest!

Myo & Mew: Scar of Sea!

Oyabun: These are the better skills!

Myo & Mew: Yes, is amazing!

SHI:   You prefer something like Wind Scar?

All foxes: That's right!!

Myo & Mew: That's it!!

SHI:   (gapes) Huh?!

Oyabun: Please teach us the skill, Master!

Oyabin: Oyabin!

Oyapyon: Oyapyon!

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Mew!

SHI:   But, the Wind Scar…

Oyabun: Master, please!

SHI:   Well then! Wait here for awhile! (runs up the knoll) I'll honor my words!

The foxes wait excitedly.

Cut to INU sleeping in courtyard of the mansion.

SHI:   (background) Inuyasha! Inuyasha!!

INU wakes just as SHI reaches him, running.

INU:   (sleepy) What's the matter, Shippo? Has the demon appeared?

SHI:   I need that!

INU:   (sits up) Huh?

SHI:   (leaps onto INU and drags TET out of its sheath) I need… to borrow… this!

INU stares at SHI bewilderedly as SHI swings TET around.

SHI:   Wind Scar! Wind Scar! Wind Scar!! Wind… (stops and pants)

INU:   What are you trying to do?

SHI:   Inuyasha, how can I do Wind Scar?

INU:   Why are you asking me about this?

SHI:   I want to learn Wind Scar, too.

INU:   Huh?!

SHI:   (continues swinging TET) I have to become stronger…!

INU:   (stands, smug) That's not how you do it. That's not the right way to learn Wind Scar.

SHI looks at INU.

INU:   Your nose is sensitive, too, right? You have to sniff out the demonic aura. So just 'Kagaga' at the right spot and 'Tsubaba' swing!

SHI:   'Kagaga' and 'Tsubaba'?

INU:   Yes, 'Kagagaaaa' and 'Tsubabaaaa'.

SHI:   I don't know what is 'Kagaga' and 'Tsubaba'!!

INU:   What?! 'Kagaga' and 'Tsubaba' is a powerful move! (grabs TET) Let me show you! Look carefully!

INU takes TET and it transforms.

INU:   'Kagaga' and 'Tsubaba'!! (leaps) Wind Scar!

INU throws a Wind Scar which destroys the entrance of the mansion.

INU:   That's how it works-Oh no! I broke it! Shippo! (looks around) Shippo? (looks down) Damn, I'm in trouble…

Cut to SHI walking in a field, looking downcast.

SHI:   I shouldn't ask that idiot Inuyasha to teach me…

Mizuki comes running towards SHI.

Mizuki: Shippo! Hey!

SHI:   Mizuki?

Mizuki: Where were you?

SHI:   I-I was looking for the demon in the village. Oh ya… (takes out the heart shaped wreath) I made this for you, Mizuki.

Mizuki: Ah!! It's beautiful! (takes wreath) Thank you, Shippo.

SHI:   (crosses arms in a grown-up manner) I have to keep on searching for the demon. You'd better go back to the village.

Mizuki: Yes, please be careful. (runs off)

SHI:   Sure!

Mizuki: Thank you!

SHI slouches over and gushes when Mizuki is out of sight. The fox demons, who were hiding behind a grey cloth in front of a boulder, call out to SHI.

Foxes: Master!

SHI shrieks in horror.

SHI:   (shocked) You again! How long have you been there?

Oyabun: About three hours.

SHI:   Well, I didn't… bring me… sword here…

Oyabun: But, why Master…?

Oyapyon: You were trying to trick that little human girl.

SHI:   No… I didn't trick her!

Oyabun: As a fox demon, you are good at playing tricks on humans! No one is better than you!

The foxes cheer.

Oyabun: Master, when are you planning to trick that little human girl again?

SHI:   What? I'm not.

Oyabin: Master Shippo, I am sure you can handle it!

Oyapyon: I'm waiting for it!

Myo & Mew: I want to see, I want to see!

SHI:   (thinking) What's wrong with them…?

Suddenly a lizard demon appears near the foxes.

The lizard demon abbreviated as LIZ from now onwards.

LIZ:   Get out of my way, little foxes!

LIZ kicks SHI and sends him flying. The foxes shriek in horror and turn to LIZ.

Oyabun: What are you doing?!

LIZ just laughs.

SHI:   (thinking) Could it be the demon that attacked the village? I have to tell Inuyasha! (gets up)

Oyabun: How dare you! Do you know who he is?

Oyabin: He is the great fox demon, Master Shippo!

Oyapyon: He has powerful skills!

Myo & Mew: Powerful skills!!

SHI's face goes blue in horror.

Oyabun: Come on then!

Oyabin: Show us your skill!

Oyabun: Master Shippo will show you his great move!

Oyapyon: Let's fight with us!

Myo:  Fight with us!

Mew: Fight with us!

SHI tries to run but Mew is grabbing onto his tail.

SHI:   (sweating) What do you want me to do…?

LIZ:   Fine, I will fight with him.

The foxes step aside.

Oyabun: Master, please!

Oyabin: Please!

Oyapyon: Please!

Myo:  Please!

Mew: Mew!!

SHI:   Well…

LIZ:   Come on then! I'm ready!

SHI:   Fox Magic!

SHI suddenly spins around and throws a bunch of Wailing Mushrooms at LIZ.

SHI:   Run away everyone! RUN!!

SHI sprints away at top speed while the foxes are left in the cold, staring at SHI's back view. LIZ storms up to the foxes.

LIZ:   Damn! You're playing a fool with me?!

The foxes shriek and run.

Oyabun: Master!!

LIZ is left in the cold, staring at the back view of the running foxes.

LIZ:   Keh! What are they trying to do?!

Cut to SHI catching his breath at a knoll in front of a river.

SHI:   Finally, I've escaped! (in horror) What's that smell?

The foxes appear behind SHI.

Oyabun: Oyabun!

Oyabin: Oyabin!

Oyapyon: Oyapyon!

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Meew!

Oyabun: Are you really our fox demon hero, the great Master Shippo?

SHI:   Y-yes, of course I am. There's no doubt…

The foxes huddle together and hold a discussion.

Oyabun: Master Shippo, you are strong, aren't you?

SHI:   Y-Yes…

Oyabin: You do have a deadly attack, right?

SHI:   Y-Yes…

Oyapyon: Then why did you run away?

SHI:   W-Well…

Myo & Mew: Why?

SHI:   (sweating) B-Because…

Oyabun: Ah! Master!

The foxes notice Mizuki a distance away, gathering flowers in a basket.

SHI:   Mi-Mizuki…

Oyabun: That's the little girl we met!

Oyabin: Let's play a trick on her!

Oyapyon: Show us the way you tricked her!

Myo & Mew: I want to see! I want to see!

Oyabun: What's wrong, Master?

SHI:   Playing a trick on a girl is fun, but…

Foxes: Master!

Oyabun: Are you really the fox hero, Master Shippo?

SHI bows his head low in exasperation.

Mew: Really?

SHI:   (exasperated, shouting) Yes, I am Master Shippo! There's no doubt!

Cut to Mizuki gathering flowers and humming to herself. She sniffs one of the flowers.

Mizuki: It smells so nice!

A large shadow appears behind Mizuki. She turns around and it turns out to be SHI in his pink flying form. SHI looks helpless and exasperated, and almost in tears.

SHI:   I'm coming! I'll show you guys that I'm great!

The fox demons appear and stand on SHI.

Oyabun: Gagaga! Get ready! Attack!

The fox demons throw a lot of acorns at Mizuki.

Mizuki: Stop it! It hurts!

SHI:   I'm being drawn into this!

SHI hovers towards Mizuki but ends up bumping into her, and making her roll down the knoll and into the riverbank.

SHI:   M-Mizuki!!

SHI pops back into his original form and runs to Mizuki. The foxes crash onto the grass. Cut to SHI reaching Mizuki. Her face is thrust into water and she is drenched.

SHI:   Mizuki! M-Mizuki… Are you…alright…?

Mizuki: (disappointed) You are… Shippo…?

SHI panics worriedly. The foxes run up behind SHI.

Oyabun: You did it!

Foxes: (cheering) You did it! You did it!

Mizuki stands to face SHI, and starts sobbing with her head bowed low.

Foxes: You did it! You did it!

Oyapyon: That was great!

Oyabin: The little human girl is crying!

Oyabun: Well done!

Mizuki gathers herself and glares at SHI furiously. SHI is taken aback.

SHI:   Well…

Mizuki: Shippo, you… IDIOT!

Mizuki runs off, while SHI is left in the cold, gaping in disbelief and horror.

Foxes: You did it! You did it!

SHI:   M-Mizuki!

Oyabun: Oyabun!

Oyabin: Oyabin!

Oyapyon: Oyapyon!

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Mew!

Oyabun: You were great, Master!

SHI:   Not really… actually…

SHI looks at Mizuki running away and starts to sob.

SHI:   I've lost my first love forever!

Foxes: You did it! You did it!

Suddenly, LIZ steps up behind the foxes, laughing.

Foxes: (panicking) He came back!

LIZ:   Do you think you could take me on with your idiotic attack? Now, we must fight!

The foxes huddle behind SHI for protection.

Oyabun: Oyabun!

Oyabin: Oyabin!

Oyapyon: Oyapyon!

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Mew!

LIZ:   Stop your nonsense! Shut up! Damn you, if you're willing to apologize to me…

LIZ stops short and gasps when he notices a fiery flame around SHI. The foxes look at SHI in awe.

LIZ:   What's going on?!

SHI:   (furious, slow) If you were not here… I won't… I won't…

LIZ:   D-Damn… Are you going to fight?

SHI:   I'm going to defeat you… to protect Mizuki and her village! (spins around and jumps) Get ready to die!!

LIZ:   (taken aback) Why you…?!

SHI raises his fist furiously to punch LIZ, but gets slugged in the face instead. LIZ then continue to punch the defenseless SHI a few more times. Cut to SHI crashing onto the ground. LIZ laughs and looks at the frightened foxes.

Oyabun: M-master!

LIZ:   Don't worry, now it's your turn!

Suddenly something rustles behind LIZ and he turns his head to look. It is SHI who has stood up slowly.

SHI:   I am… I am…

SHI stands upright and roars in a rage. The foxes are ecstatic.

LIZ:   (rushes at SHI) Damn you!

SHI rushes at LIZ, and sees a purple aura around LIZ.

SHI:   (thinking) It's the spot of the demonic aura!

Oyabun: Master is showing his great skill!

Oyabin: I have to see this!

Oyapyon: Wind Scar!

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Mew!

The silhouette of LIZ and SHI colliding is shown. The foxes are shocked.

Oyabun: This is not Wind Scar! This is…

Cut to SHI biting onto LIZ's neck violently as LIZ winces in pain. The spot where SHI is biting is the spot of the demonic aura that he saw.

SHI:   Heart Scar!

Heart Scar, or Kokoro no Kizu, is a play on Wind Scar, which is Kaze no Kizu. It can be translated as Wound of the Heart, like Wound of the Wind.

SHI bites LIZ again, and a red glow appears around him.

Oyabun: It's greater than Wind Scar!

LIZ:   (in pain) Let me go!

SHI:   (bites again) Heart Scar!

Oyabun: Master is so great!

SHI:   Come here and join me!

Oyabun: Y-yes! Let's go, everyone!

The foxes cheer in agreement. They sprint and leap onto LIZ, each getting a spot. Myo and Mew bite LIZ.

Oyabin: (bites) Heart Scar!

Oyapyon: (bites) Heart Scar!

LIZ:   NO!!

LIZ struggles in horror as the six fox demons bite him.

A while later, evening. LIZ is unconscious on the ground. The foxes are kowtowing to SHI, who has his eyes closed.

Oyabun: You're so great, Master!

Oyabin: Oyabin!

Oyapyon: Oyapyon!

Myo:  Myo!

Mew: Meew!

Oyabun: We are glad to learn from you!

Oyabin: The Fox Magic, Heart Scar is really powerful!

Oyapyon: Finally, we've learned it!

SHI:   You can use it whenever you want.

Oyabun: We had become stronger.

Oyabin: We will go look after our mother and father.

Myo and Mew nod in unison. SHI grunts proudly.

Oyapyon: We will never forget you, Master!

Foxes: Thank you very much!

SHI grunts again.

Oyabun: Well, we will be leaving now.

The foxes stand and walk away. SHI opens his eyes and look as the foxes bow to him again in the distance. They turn and journey on. SHI closes his eyes again and starts to sob when they are out of sight.

SHI:   (crying) I've lost my first love! Mizuki!!

Behind him, LIZ slithers away into the river.

Cut to LIZ moving in a field of tall grass, mumbling to himself.

LIZ:   Damn fox demon, I won't let him go the next time!

LIZ reaches the end of the tall grass, where KAG, SAN, MIR and KIR are waiting for the demon they're supposed to exterminate. MIR notices LIZ. He holds out a talisman and pastes it on LIZ's forehead unceremoniously.

LIZ:   (shocked) What are you doing?!

Electricity surges from the talisman and shocks LIZ. He pops back into a tiny lizard with swirly eyes.

LIZ:   Why…?!

MIR:   (sighs) That was an easy extermination.

SAN:  What do you mean?

MIR prays and chants.

[ End of ACT II: 21min 3sec ]

[ ACT III ]

Nighttime in the mansion. The lord is kowtowing to INU-gang.

Lord:  Thank you very much. I'm so relieved that it's over now.

MIR:   Don't mention it! Exterminating demons is my responsibility. It's just an easy task.

SHI is sulking.

INU:   What's the matter, Shippo? Is something wrong?

SHI:   Leave me alone.

INU:   (smiles) You're the one who defeated the demon, aren't you?

SHI:   I don't care!!

A group of village girls enter the room with dinner. Heading the group is Mizuki, who brings the dinner to SHI.

SHI:   Erm… Mizuki…

Mizuki sticks out her tongue and boos SHI spitefully. She then walks out. Cut to SHI looking shocked and helpless. INU laughs heartily and shakes SHI's head teasingly.

INU:   (very amused) What did you do, Shippo? Tell me everything!

SHI glares at INU furiously. INU is shocked at SHI's fury. Cut to SHI biting INU's butt.

SHI:   Heart Scar!

INU runs around the room in pain while the rest looks on. SHI refuses to let go and continues biting INU.

INU:   It hurts! What are you doing?!

KAG:  What's wrong with them?

MIR:   (prays) I think it's better to leave them alone.

SHI:   Heart Scar!! Arghhh…! MIZUKI!!
